WordPress Plugin

We have just released a WordPress plugin which fully integrates the tweetmeme button with your WordPress self hosted blog. It provides a easy way to integrate the retweet facility into your blog posts.

Why?

If you do want the button on every single post then copy/pasting the javascript can become tiresome, so to make things simple the plugin places the button either at the top or the bottom automatically, you can also override the styling.

Download/Install

You can download and find instructions on how to install the tweetmeme WordPress plugin on the tweetmeme plugin page.

Tweetmeme Goes Mobile

iPhone_GUI_1_3.pngWe have just release the mobile version of Tweetmeme, you can now access all the most popular links on twitter through your mobile device. So fire up your iPhone and head over to http://m.tweetmeme.com to try it all out.

Features

The mobile version doesn’t contain all the functionality of the main site, but we think we have got the important stuff in. It features our popular retweet button, so you can retweet on the move, plus it shows you the title and the original tweeter of the story. All of this in a easy to use interface complete with paging.

Feedback

You may of also noticed that this morning we added a feedback widget to the left hand side of all the tweetmeme pages. Please leave us feedback through the form, we really want to improve how you use tweetmeme.

Major Revamp (part 2)

We have just released the second phase of our major revamp of tweetmeme. In this phase we are bringing you a lot of new and exciting features, including inline images, paging and a tweetmeme button.

The button

We have just launched a retweet button, which enables blog owners and site authors to add the functionality of retweeting their web page. The button also gives you a total number of times your webpage has been tweeted. This tool utilizes the massive power of twitter to help promote your blog.

Paging

Tweetmeme originally only allowed you to browse the top 10 tweets in any one category, now with the paging implemented you can easily browse all the popular tweets on twitter.

Inline images

If the tweet is a image then we can automatically grab the image and show you a little preview.

Major Revamp

It has been a little too long in coming but we have finally got round to doing a major revamp of tweetmeme. The first thing you will notice is that the design has completely changed, we think the much simpler design will give clear access to the best stories coming out of twitter.

The two major feature changes beyond the cosmetic level are tagging and a new leaderboard.

Tagging

In the previous design we showed under each story a selection of the tweets relating to it. This seemed liked a good idea (and lots of people copied us.) but when you have 4000+ people tweeting the same story you are never going to read them all to get an opinion on the story. So now we have built localized tag clouds for each story, we show the most popular words associated just with that story. This we hope can give you a little bit of insight into the story before you decide to click on it.

Leaderboard

One feature of tweetmeme has always been that we tweet back at the person who first discovers a story. This made me start thinking about how often the same person is the one to tweet a link first. Why? well hopefully that person is likely to be someone worth watching in the future, so we have built a leaderboard of the top 100 twitter users ranked based upon their frequency of being the first to tweet a story.

Just a quick reminder of the other features tweetmeme has,

  • River of news page
  • RSS feed for the river of news
  • Individual RSS feeds for each category (e.g. images, videos)
  • Historic pages – you can go back to any particular date at 5 minute intervals to see what tweetmeme looked like in the past.

You can also follow @tweetmeme to get the same river of news put into your twitter stream.

Also a shout to Sun’s Startup Essentials who continue to support us as a company and also support tweetmeme with hardware (it takes a lot of power to aggregate the whole of the twitter timeline.)

Lastly if you want updates on tweetmeme and our other products feel free to follow me on twitter as well.
