Today I launched a new channel which is bound to be a popular channel with our Tweetmeme users, as it will give you all the top stories about wine!
The channel will give you information about wines, provide updates about upcoming wine events, and inform you about the health advantages (and risks) about drinking wine. Keep up to date with this exciting new channel here: Wine Channel
Having been down to the Channel 4 Education event earlier in the week which I have to say was an outstanding event. It left a lot of food for thought and got me thinking. As a result I’m looking into what we should be putting into an Education category and have just created a Moodle channel which is starting to fill out with content.
I’m hoping that this will become a useful resource for those in education or other areas that will find the content useful. If anyone can think of any other channels then do let me know…
So I’ve been going through adding a couple of new TweetMeme channels today and the two key ones of the day are the San Diego Comic Con Channel and the Tour De France channel.
The Tour De France starts tomorrow so it’s already starting to fill with stories around the competitiors and the locations. Keep an eye on it if you’re a cycling fan! I’m sure it will be an interesting one for anyone who likes this sort of thing.
The San Diego Comic Con Channel is one that I personally have a big interest in as I really enjoyed my time there a few years back. To me it was the best Comic Con that I’ve ever been to. It’s full or amazing artists and some of the rarest comic collections around. There are some great auctions that go on there as well!
Earlier in the week we had a chat with Guy Kawasaki about integration of the TweetMeme content and button into AllTop and as a result TweetMeme is now on Alltop.com http://tweetmeme.alltop.com/.
As you may have already noticed Alltop is a great new way to read all our different feeds and in terms of our content it takes the top stories and aggregates them to give you a quick and simple view of what we have on our site. Feel free to take a peak and let us and Guy know what you think.
Our thanks on this one to @guykawasaki and his team for getting it all sorted out it looks great and we look forward to seeing what happens next with it.
Today we updated the TweetMeme site with some new features and some UI changes. We are hoping that this will help you find your way around the site easier and quicker as well as find additional information on re-tweets around your stories.
So first of all we added the Follow on Twitter link. This gives users the ability to follow a specific channel or the top level TweetMeme accoount. You’ll find the Follow next to our Subscribe button and under the Sign in area on the top right of the page.
Secondly we’ve made it easier to find our channels on TweetMeme. So now you can find our channels in our sub menu next to the Live button, as well as down the right hand side of our site showing the top channels on TweetMeme.
We have a variety of different channels that may be of interest to our readers including the recently added World Wide Developer Conference Channel and the Le Mans racing channel amongst others.
And finally we’ve done an update on our TweetMeme button. The basics of the button remain the same, it still does the re-tweets via the re-tweet section of the button, but now we’ve also linked the top part of the button to the story page on TweetMeme relating to that story. This means that people can see the most recent re-tweets from people and the trending graph of re-tweets for that story.
We hope you like the updates and if you find any bugs or have any suggestions relating to these new features then please let us know over on our forum.
Since the healthcare industry is so large and because the healthcare news and top stories aren’t just about swine flu we decided that it would be a good idea to create a healthcare channel on TweetMeme. On this you will find anything from swine flu to taxation changes sorrounding the industry.
If there is a channel that you think would be a useful addition to our site then do let us know by leaving a comment here.
We are very happy today to be releasing our Twitter real-time deep link search. (quick link: http://search.tweetmeme.com ) We have been quietly building up an infrastructure that could leverage all the work we have previously done on aggregating all the links from Twitter and deep delving those links to find content and media.
We launch today with the ability to search 15+ million links which we have deep searched for content, this not only includes the text from web pages and blog posts but also videos and images.
Although the ability to keep our index totally real-time is great we also believe that the delivery of relevance is still just as important, our default search results are based upon a clever combination of newness, retweets and some other weighting factors. This means results tend to be recent and relevant but at the same time the most popular. We do also offer search by ‘Age’. Lastly you can sort the results purely by ‘retweets’ to give you the most relevant results based upon its popularity on Twitter.
Here is a quick bullet point of the key features of our search,
- Real-time search – our indexer picks up stories as they come out of Twitter
- Boolean operators (& | – ! and grouping) – explained below
- Sort by Best Match
- Sort by Age
- Sort by Retweet Count
- Filtering
- Filter by Category
- Filter by Media (News, Images, Videos)
- Filter by Age (recent links first)
- Filter by Tweets (e.g. 100+ retweets)
- Filter by Channel (e.g. apple, start-ups)
- RSS – you can subscribe to any of the search results
- Retweet – you can retweet the links you find without leaving the site (if you are logged in via OAuth)
Some guidelines on how to use our search -> http://help.tweetmeme.com/2009/05/11/search-guidelines/
Lastly we will soon expose the engine via our API so that other developers can leverage the results.
See what the press have said already:
Or just search on TweetMeme
We’ve been having a really busy day today what with the opening up of the whitelist, analysing the stats and creating new channels. Today’s new channel is a Startup’s channel. If you are interested in startup’s and VC’s then this is going to be the channel for you. Please bear in mind these are any type of startups from technology through to a New Roller Derby team being formed.
Enjoy!
Today we added the Wordpress TweetMeme channel. We decided that since there’s always so much news for those who design and develop blog sites using Wordpress that it’s users would probably appreciate a channel where they can subscribe to all the hottest news on Wordpress. The channel contains announcements, new plugins, themes and design competition related links. So if you are a developer or designer and work with Wordpress then this one is just for you!
We hope you like it and if you have any suggestions for a new channel then do just leave a comment and you never know we may just put a channel up there just for you!
With the recent outbreaks of Swine Flu we’ve launched a channel so that you can track where the latest outbreaks are and news sorrounding it. Also with the recent research being done to erradicate Malaria and the recent Milaria No More campaign we have launched a channel to follow the progress here too.
